A very bland and boring episode of Spy fiction which portrays the Skrulls as space Jews with a plan that seems based on Alt. Right replacement theory. The opening credits use controversial unethical AI techniques that I think were a thoughtless addition. The geopolitical details offered in the shows dialog make no sense, Colombia invading the Philippines? How exactly would that work? Likewise the plot seems to veer between distasteful and nonsensical. Deciding that the Skrull are immune to harmful radiation and so are living openly near radioactive facilities made me wonder why they would even bother trying to commit genocide when they already have safe communities on Earth. The plot point of Fury behaving oddly makes me assume that he’s a Skrull. By far the worst entry into the MCU, judging from the first episode. Deciding to set the first episode in Russia while the Russian invasion of Ukraine is ongoing, was a poor choice.
The Skrulls have long been one of my favorite parts of Marvel comics, from the Super Skrull in FF to Hulkling in Young Avengers.
I’m probably not going to watch anymore of it, despite really liking Samuel Jackson, Colbie Smuthers, Olivia Coleman, and Ben Mendelssohn, I really liked the Captain Marvel movie and the Ms Marvel Disney+ series. I was hoping this would be a fun show that would lead into the Marvels movie, and maybe be a bit like the Night Manager or Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
