I was a Cop in Manchester during filming of Life on Mars. Came across a film set during routine patrol. At the time I had a 1973 VW Beetle (Baby Blue. YDO853L) and managed to get my car and my Sergeants Steve (Smithy) Smith’s Black 1970’s Mercedes in the Second series. Keep your eye out for them. Love the programme, characters, decade, The Force, The City. Everything about it is brilliant. Take me back to 73, the year I was Born. When I first started in the Cops their were DCI, DI’s just like Gene Hunt. I met one of my original DI’s in West Ireland of all places (DI Towey). I got goose bumps and hairs stood up on my back when I recognised and spoke to him. Proper Coppers. Those days are well gone, but Policing was real.
