Just finished watching Nosferatu, and overall it was a good-looking, well-acted period movie. I watched it for the stylized portrayal of the Count Dracula / Nosferatu, coincidentally his name even comes in Hellsing I saw over a week ago on Jan 18-22, 2025!
I'll just go and say the castle scenes were perhaps the strongest, maybe even funniest part of the movie as if a Hotel Transylvania scenario or like Scooby-doo and the gang visiting a haunted mansion.
I appreciated the choice of actors like Nicholas Hoult, Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Emma Corrin from Deadpool & Wolverine actually looking pretty, Lily-rose depp looking sensual in some, while heartrendingly sincere and innocent in others was impressive.
And of course, Willem Dafoe being the cryptic, adorable crazy old man who guides or menaces the youngsters!
I will admit it was a little startling in its Exorcist inspired possession scenes (most of all the opening scene). However, being a period Vampire seduction movie, it portrayed its titular menace quite smartly.
Again relying on practical effects and cinematography to portray supernatural abilities. There's a bit of comfort in knowing in how he looks like and what he can do, and also exhibits the film's confidence in its titular character.
The film is very appealing in its elaborate 18th century German streets, especially the streets with falling snow made the scenes quite beautiful to look at.
Personally for now I do not feel as strongly about the film, however its ending left a touching, poignant impact, that just may make it a memorable albeit slightly anticlimactic film.
Maybe could've benefitted from some good-old vampire hunting action. Still a good enough Robert Eggers movie. 7:00am 30.1.2025
