Becca’s movie review: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (no spoilers, I promise)
I highly suggest reading the book! Preferably prior to the movie if not directly after the movie. The book is the absolute best in the Hunger Games series. It is incredibly deep with a lot of inner dialogue that helps you truly understand Coriolanus Snow. I think the movie was very well done. Hit all the major points and twist within the book (which is difficult to put a 17 hour read into a 2 hour movie). Things were slightly out of place chronologically compared to the book but it made sense in the movie to capture each scene. I felt as if the whole thing was running in fast forward. Like I mentioned a lot of content to cover. The book is very much split into two sections which they did within the movie, however, I think it would have been better suited as a two part film to capture more.
Casting was perfect!! There are not many movies I watch after reading the book that I feel the cast matches what I pictured. They did an amazing job of embodying the individual character personalities here!
Overall, I thought the movie was great and followed what we see in the book better than most movies from books do. I only think that it would be incredibly difficult for the audience to understand why certain things are happening the way that they are if they had not read the book.
