I just DO NOT get what the hype is about this book. As a 4th grade teacher I did a read-aloud with my students and I was bored to tears reading it to them. It’s like watching a movie that starts out dull but you keep watching it anyway just to see if it gets any better…. but it doesn’t. The writing style just rubbed me the wrong way. And the ridiculous nonsense names given to people, places, and things were just hard to take seriously. uggggh. I just really hated the book. Not so much for the story itself or underlying themes, but for the writing style. I just could not get past how awful it was. I am baffled how everyone raves and gushes over the book, like when a pretentious artist draws something simple such as a black circle on a white canvas and everyone calls it a masterpiece. Give me a break.
