I find myself watching this movie over and over again. A simple story well told and realistically acted. The music is haunting, the locations a key character of the movie itself. Perhaps it’s the Nz scape I recognise as home that endears me to this movie too. I feel like I’ve been transported back in time to post The Great War. I live in a house built in 1907 and think about the early inhabitants living through that time. This movie shows me what it would have been like and is even set in a location not far from where I live in Western Australia. I find I’m drawn back to this stunning film again and again.

It was strange. If you didn’t grow up with Diana you’d have no idea what the heck was happening other than she was mad and had her head down the toilet all the time and looked pretty In dresses. Seriously. This is a story they thought needed telling by way of montages of KS mimicking Diana’s head tilt and hairdo? Very very odd. Like the makers were trying to be arty farty. Epic fail. Even the good acting can’t save this waste of time movie. No wonder it moved to streaming so quick. I say good acting but i actually don’t think Stewart got Diana right at all. Most of her dialogue was barely understandable and uninteresting. Someone hates Princess Diana. They did her dirty on this film. Hated it. Don’t waste your time or money unless you like scratching your head trying to figure out what the heck it was made for.

The speech isn’t correct with the way they spoke in Victorian settings....they didn’t say things like I’m. And Amy is beautiful but her deep voice makes it impossible to see her as a young child in flashback scenes. And Laurie/Timothy Chalamet looks no different from boy to grown man. In short this movie has none of the charm and feeling that the 1994 version directed by Gilliam Armstrong has. That is still my favourite adaptation.
