If you like this you might want to check out 'Run,Lola,Run' that uses the same 'what if' gimmick. Nevertheless I give this 5 stars for the using that premise to tell yet another story about yet another girl. I do appreciate the care spent in crafting each scene, much like Kubrick would do. Actually making a movie rather than just filming a story. I was ready to quit watching after 30 minutes due to lack of character development but that eventually improved enough (barely)to keep watching. So my rating is based on my appreciation for the *attempt* to do something different with film. The story itself is pretty formulaic (they used to call those multiverse jumps 'daydreams' by the way ) but I guess you do gotta leave the audience with a smile on their face. Charlie Chaplin used daydreams too so this trick is as old as the hills. That it should win best picture from a Hollywood crowd seems about right even if on the merits there have been so many better movies over the decades. I guess I would call it a dazzling spectacle that addressees some of causes- du -jour and there certainly have been more ham-handed attempts than this one. It really doesn't match other five star movies over the decades but in today's world let's just say that that inflation has provided the extra star.
