Definitely a bit cliché and spends slightly too long during the middle section of the movie where both couples are just stood/sat around talking about random debate topics, but other than that this was great. I really enjoyed the subtle hints you get that Paddy (James McAvoy) isn’t as stable and friendly as he seems. The child actor that plays his son Ant is remarkable, his expressions of helplessness are heartbreaking. The American dad Ben was a bit of a wet blanket but he was that typical ‘polite’ character in a horror. Once the film allows you to realise that Ant and the American family are in serious danger, it definitely starts to pick up more, as the psychopathic British couple become more outwardly grim and unfriendly as the other family tries to find excuses to leave.
Overall it is a good watch, especially if you like a thriller with hints of horror. Not absolutely incredible but definitely not bad either.
