If you are not an avid Tolkien fan, you might enjoy the series. You will be very confused by the lack of information given beforehand with the countless vague trailers they released prior. But if you cherish Tolkien's work and read the books, or watched the movies, you will not enjoy what Amazon has done to the series. Knowing that Amazon does not have the rights to the Silmarilion should give fair warning about what they can / cannot do in the series. The mix match of original characters, with the complete change of Galadriel's background, is alarming. You take a very powerful mage of middle earth and give her a sword to represent strength? You have her command armies and fight in battles she was not even a part of. Make events up and totally rewrite a pivotal character as you see fit to justify your storyline.
If this was portrayed as an Amazon original series without Tolkiens name on it, it could be an alright of the show, but when you try to change the original work to your liking by saying "It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of [author J.R.R.] Tolkien's work would reflect what the world actually looks like," executive producer Lindsey Weber told Vanity Fair, instead of staying true to his work like others "We made a promise to ourselves at the beginning of the process that we weren't going to put any of our own politics, our own messages or our own themes into these movies. ... In a way, we were trying to make these films for him, not for ourselves." - Peter Jackson
The overall series as a whole has very weak writing, the acting is subpar, and the only good thing about the show is the sets/ scenery. The sceneries and sets are beautiful I can say that. Everything else is falling by the wayside.
