A loose rule of thumb for this show and Lost in Space is that if the episode you are watching is black and white, the writing is not too bad and worth watching. Once the color episodes started it seemed like some of the seriousness was disappearing and eventually the props and plots get really silly, almost to the point of insulting. I'm a fan of the Irwin Allen shows, but it's hard to watch many of the later shows. Most of Land of the Giants and Time Tunnel episodes have a more serious feel to them and didn't suffer from the same problems.
