Very philosophical and existential, but at the end, I think the message is the wrong one.
The guy ends up disappointed after pursuing his dream gig, and yes they’re other more basic and important things in life ... but, when you have a dream, you work hard to get it, and you don’t let go so easy.
On one hand you have a rat, leaving his entire family to become a chef in Ratatouille; and now, to please younger generations perhaps, you have a jazz pianist that quits on his dream just like that... because he saw some “basic” things in life.
Sorry but I disagree. It is the wrong message to send. And it even contrasts big time to previous Disney messages.
The only thing I liked, is the fact that the animation of the pianist fingers, actually follow very well what the music plays. But that’s it. The main core of the movie, I didn’t like. Instead of encouraging young audiences to fight or work hard to achieve their dreams, it says ... “whatever, enjoy life and chill” ... “happiness is not relative to success” ... etc etc. And that might be true, I just don’t want to see it in a Disney movie, or show it to a kid.
