I have decided to write a review after playing Tears Of The Kingdom (TOTK) for one hour.
I previously played Breath Of The Wild and loved (nearly) every second of it. I say nearly because (on occasion) the game would slow down and I would go back to old favourites for a month or so, games like Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons or Terraria.
So… I was given TOTK For my birthday yesterday. I have played a little over 1 hour. I found the cutscenes to be slightly longer than in BOTW, and of slightly higher video quality. The initial sequence was engaging, and gripping. I found the long explanation about his arm from Rauru to be slightly boring but all in all necessary to the story (as far as I can tell) so won’t hold it against the game.
The fact that after walking to the Temple of Time, you have to go and do shrines was frustrating. You do EXACTLY THAT in BOTW. Maybe Nintendo decided that having a similar intro was necessary for fans of BOTW to enjoy it. Maybe. But hey! I should not be annoyed by that because new players do need to learn how to do shrines and things.
I did like the Zonai Stewards, I feel like they were not of any great use to me because I played BOTW but I can imagine that they would be great for new players. Ultrahand seemed pretty much like an upgraded Magnesis, which was something of a relief, it worked well and building zipline type things was fun. I then went straight on to unlock Fuse (after getting lost on the Great Island, which took up a large amount of my hour so I could not complete the third shrine). Fuse is a lot of fun. An awful lot of fun. So many possible combinations, I doubt I would ever be able to try them all.
Then my hour was up. All in all: Very fun. It could be a bit more different from BOTW though. But hey! I have only played an hour, seriously I am sure it will become more different in just a couple more hours. The gameplay and controls are satisfying, the visuals are excellent and the cutscenes are
