Rebel Moon ~Part 1~ Chapter 1: Chalice of Blood is an underrated - though fractionally verbose - update on the first version. The director's cut delivers an entire new and necessary layer of lore and context that, coupled with some welcome additions to the soundtrack, carries this more wholesome narrative from an anemic, flashback-pockmarked popcorn original into one that bears the hallmarks of a Snyder classic. The added gore and R-rated elements fit nicely into the version's new content rounding out the story nicely, filling in the gaps and plugging the subplots that were missing from the first one. Though some performances continue lacking and, despite the heavy run time, most characters still feel just a little like familiar strangers. This more extravagant space opera-esque version turns a solid sci-fi epic attempt into a pretty good one. Depends, of course, on you liking the 1st edition. Or, if you haven't seen that - watch this instead. Worth it. Chapter 2's three-hour director's cut stretch awaits.
