i saw this a few days before it was scheduled to come out in theatres? not saying it to brag, just reflecting on it now and i honestly forgot i saw this movie. which says a lot. i know i considered leaving before halfway through at the time. before the sex scene which...was one of the funnier parts of the movie. it was a movie i watched a lot through my fingers which also says a lot considering it was not a horror film (actually this is debatable) - it was just that cringey. it was an interesting idea for a story with a few laugh out loud moments really out of sheer horrific awkwardness than anything else. it is not fun watching someone ruin their lives and have everything go wrong for them. that is what this movie is. when i saw ari aster's name in the credits it all made sense. nic cage was brilliant in it. looking at my notes i jotted down quickly right after watching it and the first two lines say: not good. not memorable. it was interesting. and that's about it.

Spectacularly shot but the story was lacking mainly the backbone of the story - Napolean's love - was lacking. The dialogue did not flow or connect. The chemistry between the two lovers was either non existent or simply not clear. Alternatively, I understood him to be a military genius only due to one scene - his ice attack - nothing else, which is strange because that is what he is renowned for. Maybe this could have better served as a Part 1 and Part 2 since there is so much life attributed to this one man that one long movie could not possibly illustrate all of what we now know him to be. It lacked depth, it lacked any real insight. The film depicted him as a poor lover and a silly man outside of the battlefield. Is this true? What is actually known about his character? This film was not satisfying but all in all not terrible. For me not worth a second watch and quite honestly I left the movie thinking less about Napolean and more about the oceans of blood, we the present, currently stand in. All of the needless horror of war and spectacle killing our past ancestors had to endure so we can be today. I left the movie reflecting on the awfulness of power and how one must be almost certainly crazy to think that they deserve it over another. Don't know if that was supposed to be the message - it is after all a biopic - but that is what I got out of it.

very addictive, bingeable show. I really like Mike Flanagan's direction and since Hill House I have been consuming his media bit by bit (Hill House to me was masterfully done). This show was chilling, ridiculous, dark, with just the right amount of hope - the perfect light at the end of a dark damp tunnel - towards the end, when the viewer needs it the most. I would recommend to all horror, thrill enjoyers. It wasn't jump scare scary but creepy from a human psychological perspective. I also enjoyed reading and learning more about Edgar Allan Poe because of this series. The beginning poem's lines from "For Annie" struck me in the heart.
