This book is romanticising arranged marriages. Arranged marriages aren't as great as shown here and this book is just a fantasy. I have seen two of my sisters suffer from arranged marriages and haven't seen them happy ever since they got married to those complete strangers who didn't treat them well at all. While some arranged marriages end up well, usually the woman is pressurised and doesn't get a say in her life. Indian parents can be very loving but they feel like you owe them your lives and that you'll have to take care of them in their old age - especially if you're a woman. This may seem harsh, but you're their retirement plan and if you don't do as they say, they usually cut you off. My youngest sister lives with me and I'm helping her get through college so that she can be independent and not suffer at the hands of our parents.
