I was initially excited to see that the story was taking us aboard a ship. Covid ruined cruises. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too far in when I found myself saying, was there no script? Obviously, I now know that was the case. This played like The Hills. You remember, the worst ever “reality” TV show where the characters would go out to eat at some trendy place only to ask each other, “So, what did Heidi say to Spencer” as if anyone cared! This movie felt awkward throughout and never really evoked any emotion. Dianne Wiest and Candice Bergen had convincing improvisational skills, I just found myself not caring about their characters (or anyone else). Gemma Chan is the most gorgeous thing to do walk this planet, but I barely paid attention to her in this film. If you need a Meryl Streep fix (who doesn’t?) watch The Prom.
