I do not understand how anyone could possibly find any value in this dismal portrayal of mankind's future. Personally, I find such existential escapism films nauseating. To say it is existential is a stretch: After all, the great philosopher, writer and humanist, Jean Paul Satre found hope being locked up in an elevator with Satan...this stinker of a movie has nothing positive, no saving grace or fresh outlook on anything remotely enduring about us or the universe.
Save yourself the misfortune of suffering a most miserable, forgetable job acting with mindless characters, dialogues aimed at destroying millions of brain cells and a morbid plot or 'projection' of some writer's nightmarish idea of science fiction, the final frontier or dystopian future.
To say that it could have been done with some kind of cathartic juxtaposition ending rife with a morsel of hope or some uplifting praise of humanity, even in the past tense, would have been understated and refreshingly glaring had there been any sense of dignity or reverence for the entire sci fi genre. A nuclear blast would be more heartwarming than this pukester.
