Weak observations, poorly performed. I don't generally bother to write reviews but after Gervais had the audacity to compare Afterlife to The Sopranos and Chernobyl I felt like I had to share my honest views on the show. Afterlife centers around a narcissistic, misanthrope who thinks performative swearing is edgy and believes that animals = good and God = bad. Sound familiar? This thinly veiled Gervais thought vehicle displays a stunning lack of subtlety and nuance throughout and only serves to repackage 30+ years of material for a new viewership who, apparently, need every aspect of the plot and character's emotions repeatedly spelled out for them. Flumph telly at its worst.
