In the 1990s Tim Flannery was a hero of mine.
This book oversaw 2 decades of the worsening of global warming by avoiding the obvious premise that the excessive wealth of the writer and reader underscore the main drivers of global pollution.
In attacking politicians and Western society in general without indicating a practical and personal way forward that he himself is using to reduce his own wealth related carbon footprint a great opportunity to fix the problem has been missed.
Unfortunately this book has not driven a reduction in greenhouse emissions but a world wide increase in the increase of emissions.
l have wondered if this is because this book drives fossil fuel use in climate hypocrites.
As a global citizens wefly all over the world, drive a cars and buy foreign made goods.
All contributing heavily to the destruction of the planet.
But seems to lack the the introspection to see the connection between wealth and the greatest moral dilemma of our time.
Mr Flannery blames politicians and society for having the same or lesser carbon footprint as himself yet offers no self sacrifice to save the planet.
If the book had started with the words "I am a future eater" it may have had some scientific and moral value.
Unfortunately it is just the mirrors the rantings of malcontent pushing a populist agenda without finding common ground with climate change denyers and therefore missed a great opportunity to start a real reduction in greenhouse pollution.
