Captain Q

I was excited to watch the show, thinking it was going to be closer to history. While I know not a whole lot is known about the first known black samurai, I definitely wasn’t expecting giant mechs, ex machina fragile girls, Resident evil bosses and X-men mutants. The dialogue between the characters is super rushed and barely coherent. It made it difficult to remember who, what, when, where and forget why. Not only that but it sidelined its own titular character and the girl saki seemed to take over as the main focus for her arbitrary psychic ‘powers’. I see that the show only has 6 episodes so that could be the reason for the rushed story. Still the story beats are absolutely WILD. This story really could have used a proof read, the better parts of this were the flash backs where I felt the story should have stayed rather than zig zag back and forth from past to present like a dementia patient. I don’t mind a little anachronistic embellishing when it comes to history like with samurai champloo but I feel this story was rather disrespectful to our yasuke. His memory deserves better. TLDR: Soundtrack was awesome, voice acting was great, animation and art direction was wonderful. Story and dialogue ...oof.
