I only watched a few episodes of the first season. I enjoy comedy, but found this too silly. I also suspect that there is a subtle goal to immasculate the darker skinned male character in making him not only unisex, but pregnant and incubating an egg as well. If the psychological motive is to reduce the stereotype of the menacing black figure, maybe it worked. I didn't care for it.
I recently thought to try Orville again, then I saw the video mocking Discovery. Are the producers threatened by that show? Was that necessary? Jealous of the textured characters, the far superior production quality, and the intriguing plot development? I would like to think that Seth is too intelligent to be the class clown who pokes fun at others to make himself feel good. Rivalry, to drive up ratings? Actors on both shows are professional artists. Let's not devolve into the nasty zeitgeist that permeates our culture at this time. Just do work you are proud of. Don't demean others. Best of luck.
