This movie blew me away because it came so close to my upbringing as an Army brat. I still WAS one when I first saw it. Only, my dad was a Dustoff chopper pilot and not a jet fighter jockey. Still, so much seems so familiar - inspections and so forth. Most especially the part with his daughter and the shoes. My sis had the EXACT SAME showdown with my dad. Pretty sure it was then when she dedicated her life to getting gone. Anyhow, we got through it - actually kind of appreciated it - although I never did the same with my kids. I'm sure this lifestyle was/is pretty common among families of career military personnel, although (I hope) certainly not the norm...
