This movie was pretty good. But could have it been done better, yes, it definitely could have. The animation is beautiful, the voice acting pretty well done, and the pacing is passable. Though the plot could have been worked on a little more; especially when it came to the dialogue. Another thing that could have helped was if there was more character development for most of the characters - and not just Snow and Merlin (the two leading characters). Like, how did the Fearless 7 form, and what were their lives like before they were cursed; why exactly did Regina want eternal youth and beauty, and how did her magic work; how come all the monsters in the movie were so adorable looking and not menacing - also who exactly were the kids who were cursed?
And as I said before, the dialogue really could have used some work. The story has its moments where it was funny and charming, but there were plenty of times where I thought that a line could have been written better, or at least said in a different way. It was also a bit too cartoony at times. And I get that it's meant to be a kids film, but that doesn't mean that all the characters should act goofy. Also, I thought that making three of the seven into identical triplets was just a lazy way of not putting more focus into their designs. Plus, I would have liked to see Arthur pull Excalibur out of the stone; like having him finally earn his lesson. Also, Hans using a cooking pan as a weapon isn't clever - it's already been done by "Tangled". And I didn't think The Magic Mirror was funny - he just came off as bland and uninteresting. Finally, I didn't like the music used in the movie - it just didn't hit me at all.
I will say that they did a good job over a story about appearances. Snow, as well as the others, got to see how most normal people face discrimination, while good looking people tend to receiving special treatment. I really would have liked if they focused a bit more on that subject. Because the harsh reality is that that's how the world works - you need to have beauty and charm in order to get ahead in life. And while, not all people need that, there are many that do. Snow being a caring person who didn't care about appearances, but still struggled to accept what she really looked like because of all the kindness she's been receiving...made her a pretty relatable character. Though honestly, while the girl did look beautiful as Red...she's perfect as Snow.
Lastly, I would of had Snow and Merlin start off on an actual relationship, and date for awhile before eventually getting married - further develop their chemistry. And the other dwarfs could of met other normal gals who ended up loving them for who they were, and not what they could offer. Plus, it would have been better if Merlin's magic consisted of all the natural elements, and not just lightning - I mean, come on, he's named after the most powerful and famous wizard in fictional literature. Also, and I can't stretch this enough...Average was the worst character in the movie; just so petty and weak-willed - he was down right pathetic. If he was clever and diabolical, that would have at least somewhat made up for his fragile body and ego.
