Overused troupes. I feel like I'm reading fan fiction at this point. I find it quite common in the YA genre.
Although the world is quite fascinating, unlike all those Harry Potter clones out there, the plot feels immature, repetitive and undeveloped.
I'm not a hater of romance, but I just don't like the explicit way it was presented with words. Like girl, surely you didn't fall for Xaden just because of his looks, right? The interaction between them was mostly goggling each other's looks, sex, sex, and sex, with basically no real-deep moments where they pour their hearts out to each other(yet). There is painfully little character growth throughout the book as it focuses more on witty dialogues between friends, dragons and relationships.
And the thing I'm most looking forward to-conflict, one as a rebel and the other as the general's daughter, was not as important as I have predicted. I expected them to have a heart-to-heart conversation about said topic, but the book sort of focused more on the their teacher-student relationship than their status and upbringing.
With that said, Forth Wing had a way with words when it came to conveying strong emotions. The language was gripping and enticing, and especially thrilling.
