Such a disappointing movie with with such a great cast. Instead of allowing Eddie Murphy to develop a well rounded, funny father figure who is grounded in his faith, we are given a stiff, humorless muslim father. Julie Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny characters as the Jewish mother and father are also limited and type cast. On the other hand, Jonah Hill, who happens to be one of the screen writers, is not only given the opportunity to develop his character, Ezra the Jewish son but is put in the most scenes where he could be funny. However his woke sense of humor did not make me laugh much. The bachelor and bachelorette parties could have had some comical moments rather than depicting religious and racial differences that threw cold water on the events. The movie could have been a romantic comedy that poked fun at people’s differences, instead we were given a love affair clouded by culture clashes and social commentary.
