CA really backtracked on the progress they made with Warhammer 2. It is a decent game, but if the third installation is worse than the second installation, you’ve got a big problem.
I’m not going to say I didn’t have any fun with the game; it was fun. But I only got about 70 hours out of it before I was ready to uninstall. I have 1000 hours on Warhammer 2.
The biggest frustration is that I love playing Total War games for conquest. Conquering and controlling the entire map is where I have the most fun. Warhammer 3 punishes you for doing that with the chaos rifts that spawn all over the place constantly. The game gives you the illusion of choice, that you can either do the main quest or conquer the map… but really, you’re going to deal with those awful rifts whether you like it or not. At least in Warhammer 2 you had the option of completely ignoring the campaign mechanic and winning by conquest but that is just not feasible in Warhammer 3.
I also think it’s pretty ridiculous how you could have a 20 unit army go against an army with like 7 units and if you auto-resolve, your troops take a huge amount of damage and you almost always have to manually fight the battles. As much as I love fighting battles, there are some that are just a complete waste of time that you SHOULD be able to auto-resolve and steamroll them, but you’ll be way worse off by doing that, which is kind of ridiculous is my opinion. I don’t want to have to fight every single little battle.
If you’re new to the Total War: Warhammer series, just go buy the second one and forget this one exists, you’ll be way more satisfied.
