After attending a Charles Bukowski poetry reading in Huntington Beach in 1975, I was introduced to this book and author. I enjoyed the book and the premise that working for the post office was akin to working in the feudal Middle Ages. Six years later, I was working in the post office and realized that despite the Postal Reorganization Act in 1973, not much had changed. At the end of a thirty-year career and nearing retirement, I wrote an updated look at what used to be the Post Office but was now the Postal Service. I've gotten many of his other books, but this was the one that inspired me to write "Postal Service."
