My best days working were selling books to K-12 school libraries. Some 20 years ago I was helping a school unbox 1,000’s of brand new library books - some like Walt Whitman’s America had been published 5-6 years before and some were brand new titles.
I was not efficient when helping my clients unpack because it was such a joy for me to see titles I had not held before and especially the brand new titles for that year. Needless to say, I was pretty slow in this area of my work.
But, I would find a gem like Walt Whitman’s America, smile and read a few pages - and maybe a few more. Before I left, I had ordered a copy to fully read and to carry as one of my display books… and it still makes me smile today.
