Since I have played through the game, I can say that it's a pretty decent pokemon experience. I wasn't really concerned about the controversies around the game since I normally just want to see things personally. The game is a fun time waster and it can be lengthy if you spend most of your time in the wild area. I wasn't expecting much graphic or animation wise since I don't really get too hyped for recent game releases as much anymore just so I won't be disappointed. The graphics are good looking and also mediocre in certain areas. The animations of skills varies from really good to somewhat bad but nothing that will keep you from enjoying it if you like pokemon. The few cons I've witnessed is Hop AKA bootleg Hau. He does use some of the same animations as Hau clearly and the constant running into him will probably be annoying to some but hey, easy exp is easy exp lol. the other 2 rivals, Marnie and Bede are the better ones and outshine Hop in my personal opinion. Marnie is another friendly rival but she's adorable while Bede is the new jerk rival (finally). The wild area, if you play while connected online, has some MAJOR fps drops at times when people are appearing in and out of view. Another is the difficulty of most battles. There's only a few battles that were a decent challenge but other than that, you can basically steamroll through them all. Post game isn't very long and last but not least is trying to play with your friends. It's extremely hard to play with your friends even if you give them your code. If someone is somehow using that same code, your friend can't get in but a random person will. To me the game is mostly worth 40 bucks. It's not quite at the 60 price range just yet. If it had a little more polish to it, It would definitely be worth the 60 bucks. All in all, this was a decent pokemon experience.
