The pages of this book drip with disdain for the experiences of ordinary people: those who have trouble getting in to see a doctor, or difficulty driving through clogged cities. According to O’Brien, these experiences are not an actual problem: the problem is caused by people who point out the causes of the problems. Nigel Farage, Rupert Murdoch, Boris Johnson are all dismissed as far right facists. The author has no apparent ability to see any point of view other than his own. If I want to be patronised by a half-smart journalist, I can have that experience by reading the Guardian. Don’t waste your money on this book.
