If you played god of war 1-3 and loved it for the action and story you can probably avoid this and not regret it at all. A substantial chunk of the game is you controlling Kratos as he runs, walks, rows a boat, climbs a wall and tries to solve puzzles that are physically painful to sit through (look at the sun moon Midgard puzzle if you can endure it).
The next significant chunk of the game is heavily dragging the story out. I love a good story as much as the next guy but Kratos doesn't need to stare silently at the camera for 2 minutes for dramatic effect, I don't really care to wait 7 minutes for some elevator to take me down 2 floors, every time I travel to another realm I don't need a 5 minute cinematic experience that is the exact same visual every time. The list goes on, and at the very end of rowing for 20 minutes, running around for 25, and watching 15 minutes of cutscene that contains 2 sentences you finally get a 2 minute boss fight so you can repeat the whole process again.
God of war 1 is probably still my all time favourite PlayStation game and I had a ps1, ps2 & ps3. I really wanted to like this game but if you loved the first one you might be better just hoping for a remaster instead.
