I'm wondering if all the people who left 4 & 5 star reviews & I watched the same show. So after reading some of these glowing reviews, I was sure I must have blacked out &/or watched the wrong show, so I watched it a second time, just to be sure I hadn't missed some amazing plot twist or fallen asleep or was hit on the head & lost consciousness or something, but nope, it was just as bad the second time as the first time. ... but before I start my review, I have to ask; is it just me or do the Targarians look like the elves from Lord of the Rings? I'm serious. Daemon Targarian looks as if he walked right off the set of Lord of the Rings, across the lot, onto the House of the Dragon set, and forgot to take his pointed ears off. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought he looked just like one of the elves from Rivendell.
I do understand it is not necessarily fair to compare this new show to Game of Thrones, but if you are a GoT fan, how can you not? The acting in House of the Dragon was horrible, especially from Paddy Considine, who I personally think is a great actor, but as King Viserys he was not believable at all. He looked amused and or befuddled half of the time. Frankly, everyone seemed as if they were merely, "phoning it in." The storyline was ridiculous - ESPECIALLY for the first episode. It also seemed there was gore and sex, just for the sake of gore and sex. Again, I'm a HUGE GoT fan. I've seen every episode at least three times, so clearly I'm not a prude. With GoT, in my opinion, the gore and sex made sense and fit with the overall plot line, character development, or was essential for particular episode(s) - meaning it helped tell the story. With House of the Dragon, it seemed out of place and unnecessary. To be completely honest, I had such high expectations for this prequel and I don't think I could have been more disappointed. I'll stick around for the second episode and hope it gets better, but I'm not holding my breath. Oh & someone please tell Milly Alcock how to pronounce, "Dracarys."
