It is a good movie to watch but far from excellent. Contrary to other reviewers, I found the brutality of World War One reduced to a number of scenes that could have been avoided - can soldiers really outrun a plane? Was it really that easy to remove a fallen tree using some soldiers’ muscle power? The enemy seemed to consist merely of individual snipers and drunken men besides having destroyed farms and orchards and buildings. And the many corpses floating in the river - who are they? An awful scene, but not really tragic.
On the whole, though, the movie offers an interesting storyline and provides some memorable scenes like the girl with baby and the singing of a well known song.
