A complete and utter waste of time. From beginning to end, the live action remake of Aladdin feels like a the Walmart discount brand of it’s far superior animated predecessor. The singing is passable, but over produced and painfully auto tuned, and pails in comparison to the original. Will Smith is by no means a bad genie, but fails to live up to the very high bar set by Robin Williams. The casting seems to fail both in the musical and theatrical department, making it seem like a middle school play, rather than a multi million dollar budget film. The directing feels choppy, and leaves you feeling disjointed and awkward. The choice to shoehorn the feminist anthem sung by Jasmine (that doesn’t appear in the original) was certainly a poor one, and is condescendingly irritating. Not worth your money, or your time.
