I loved the book and I know the story well, as I followed it as it happened when I was much younger. But this series, which I looked forward to, was impossible to watch. Believe it or not, people a few decades ago did have lightbulbs! We didn't live in darkness, as this set indicates. I can't understand why these wonderful actors were made to seem all but invisible as a result of the woefully inadequate lighting, and as for the fictitious character played by Anna Maxwell Martin, it ruined the whole effect. A married woman back then could not have worked in the secret service, and there were few black doctors around, either. Clearly this couple were added just for wokeness. I do wish the whole production had lived up to its hype or been as good as the book, but it was a complete waste of time for us.
