People are too blinded by nostalgia to see this isn't a good game. I never played the original back in the day, so this is an unbiased review.
Least favorite things first:
-Horrible, broken battle system. They couldn't choose whether they wanted turn based or action so they made whatever this is. Have fun: casting spells, getting hit and canceling your spell but it still draining MP, getting knocked down and stuck in death loops, undodgeable attacks, your character swinging/shooting/etc in the completely wrong direction (including wasting limits) because they weren't faced towards the enemy exactly right, and more.
-Corny dialog brought to life by corny English dub anime like voice acting.
-Story is really not that original or great (like many jrpgs), especially not in this part of the game.
-This took me 40 hrs to complete but it's still not the full game. I would consider it full game in time and effort, but ultimately who wants to wait around and pay for the other parts.
Best parts for me:
-Graphics are really good. Never played a final fantasy game with them this good.
-Music was really good, and one of the few things that made this feel like a real final fantasy game.
-Was finally starting to get in to the story half or 3/4ths the way in.
Oh also of course if you are one of those nostalgic people, the game is not the original.
I got the game free on playstation plus. I'd say it's worth playing for that price, or if you can get a physical copy for $5-10. Otherwise be prepared to waste your money just to want to throw the game in the trash because of the battle system. It is really that bad lol.
