Loose Goose

For one, this game has performance issues on ps4 which is ridiculous considering the graphics are very basic. The two main characters are insufferable, especially the one you play as. Dialog can be literally cringe sometimes. It's like it was written by some old guy who's personality is being a guy. People who say walking simulator are right to an extent. It's interesting hiking the trails when they're new, but after a bit (ie when the story actually gets mildly interesting) you're forced to walk the same long stretches over and over with nothing new or interesting there. I was also jarred by the relationship aspect of the game. It was very sudden and out of nowhere. On the positive side, it was kind of a mystery to me and I was hooked on it wanting to finish and figure out what was going on. The hikes were charming when you first do them, and if you try to ignore the cringiness of the dialog it can be kind of neat (the talking back and forth). Overall worth a play, but it should be cheaper and it's not some amazing 5/5 gem like people say.

People are too blinded by nostalgia to see this isn't a good game. I never played the original back in the day, so this is an unbiased review. Least favorite things first: -Horrible, broken battle system. They couldn't choose whether they wanted turn based or action so they made whatever this is. Have fun: casting spells, getting hit and canceling your spell but it still draining MP, getting knocked down and stuck in death loops, undodgeable attacks, your character swinging/shooting/etc in the completely wrong direction (including wasting limits) because they weren't faced towards the enemy exactly right, and more. -Corny dialog brought to life by corny English dub anime like voice acting. -Story is really not that original or great (like many jrpgs), especially not in this part of the game. -This took me 40 hrs to complete but it's still not the full game. I would consider it full game in time and effort, but ultimately who wants to wait around and pay for the other parts. Best parts for me: -Graphics are really good. Never played a final fantasy game with them this good. -Music was really good, and one of the few things that made this feel like a real final fantasy game. -Was finally starting to get in to the story half or 3/4ths the way in. Oh also of course if you are one of those nostalgic people, the game is not the original. I got the game free on playstation plus. I'd say it's worth playing for that price, or if you can get a physical copy for $5-10. Otherwise be prepared to waste your money just to want to throw the game in the trash because of the battle system. It is really that bad lol.
