A great story, over many generations and a rare balance of technical detail, character development and lyricism. I learned a lot about India’s history, the caste system, food and culture, and about medicine. It got a bit dry about 70% of the way through (hence not 5*), I could have done with fewer descriptions of the medical side - but that’s a personal preference and others might enjoy it. But the last 20% made up for it so plough on through - it’s worth it!
