I'm not gonna be those salty people who don't like it just because it doesn't feel zelda-y anymore. For example, one said that they removed Ganondorf. He doesn't appear in minish cap.
I'm going to make this have less nostalgia bias :>
Gameplay- Sure, it's super fun when you start, but mid to late game it gets very boring. There is very little to do, and everything feels...empty. Shrines are really boring, the puzzles are either very cryptic or very easy and self-explanatory. Since you've done a lot of the side quest that are actually entertaining, since most of them just seem laborious, there isn't much to play for. Once you get to all the areas (which doesn't take much time, actually) it looses all of it's charm.
Plot and Character- Like, it doesn't feel whole, something is lacking. You never see how it was like back then, the champions are such troupes, there is 0 character depth, why bother to avenge them. For example, Fire Emblem: Three Houses students are really troupey, but the conversations with everyone make them feel real. Its not the odd pattern you see in some RPGs where they only talk to a few people, not the whole group. They also have realistic issues that make you want to help. But in botw, the characters are exactly the raw stock character. Nothing was changed, they are very unoriginal. Even spoilers don't feel bad, it's great to get them because it guides you when you start so you don't feel like you're randomly flung into a very empty version of Hyrule. The story is what anyone can come up with. Hey guys, we have these machines to protect ourselves from Ganon! Whoops looks like there's malice in em.
Then the champions die, only leaving Link and Zelda. That's it. I mean, Zelda is probably the only character that was well done, but the problem is, we barely see her. She has so much potential. You see, in the Zelda games, they prioritize gameplay over plot, and in botw, they prioritized gameplay much more, it's only strength. But, after you've played it, the game just feels like your progress has been erased. I wish it did story and character more like the Xenoblade series, where you feel like you grow with the characters.
