Amazing film, Dev Patel is outstanding. It was an emotional rollercoaster and anthropology of life in India. It explores the divide between rich and poor, victim and abusers, corruption, dirty politics and most importantly Monkey Man’s journey to revenge. It’s gripping from start to finish. I heard Dev Patel invested his own money to complete the film, I am so glad he did.

Watch it to appreciate the growth of the characters and their relationships. It’s a gritty look at Birmingham in the 1980s, its fictional so don’t get hung up on the historic timelines, just appreciate the exceptional story telling style of Steve Knight. It’s got nostalgia from the set, especially if you’re a Brummie, to the 1984 riots which you will recognise even if you’re not from Birmingham. What’s astounding is that younger people will resonate with the character’s lives, expression through music, political and economic issues that are still live.

A stunning film. I love the way Daniel has created real, sometimes flawed and complicated, but interesting characters whom are connected through love. The film, beautifully, explores the intricacy of relationships and friendships. You will be on an emotional journey but pour a glass of wine and enjoy.
