So many of Jolie’s recent films seem to use her essence as a still life, or a kind of portrait of her beauty. While she is indeed a beautiful woman, she is also a great poser. Unfortunately, in Maria, Jolie is tasked with the portrayal of a very real, passionate, and creative woman whose vibrancy of flesh and blood defined her. But Jolie’s barely there and depressed rendition of the artist never even begins to smolder, let alone catch fire. Her quiet version of Callas seems to ask the same question over and over again: “Don’t you know who I used to be?” And although we know the answer, the tedium of repetition creates an experience that can only be described as mind numbing. Jolie’s recent appearance in the Tom Ford cosmetic ads have more life than this monumentally dull film.

Why does ET focus so much attention on black entertainers, and especially the ones with such reprehensible behaviors? I realize the hosts of ET are African American, but it seems their coverage of the sector lacks a certain balance. Blacks represent 14 percent of the American population but ET’s coverage of this demographic is disproportionately expansive. The show also seems that it has become focused on issues within the industry that are unsavory. When did Et decide to become so focused on all things tacky? I think ET should consider changing their format. This should include the addition of new hosts who are more mature, more professional, and have an interest in promoting a more positive spin on the totality of those within entertainment industry. The current hosts seem to relish in reporting only the most salacious news possible.

Why is Judy woodruff ,who is so far left she has lost focus, still allowed to pursue her trump Bashing agenda? She tries so hard to appear to be bipartisan in her approach to marketing her “specials”, but her disapproval for the former president is transparent and palpable. Her recent special was so staged and did little to do anything but push her personal agenda. Why does pbs allow her to pursue and host programs that are produced only to promote her own political beliefs? Is it possible that her financial support, influence, and donations to pbs are significant enough that the network is obligated to produce her let’s trash trump agenda “specials”?

This movie makes a powerful statement about self respect without belaboring the point. Without being obvious, it is a tale told in a manner that is compassionate and empathetic, even to those who seem to be the most undeserving. And it does so in a manner that is sensitive, compelling, and worth the watch. And while the always beautiful Blake and beyond handsome Justin are simply mesmerizing to observe , it is actually the delightful character of the fashionable sister who steals the show in creative couture with truth, humor, and authenticity. And gratefully, this movie with such difficult subject matter, ends on a very high note that gives you that good ol hooray for Hollywood feeling when the good guy gets the good girl. Not a bad movie to wrap up the summer season!

Incredibly silly movie with silly characters, a ridiculous plot, and even sillier dialogue. But the cinematic storm chasing during extreme weather adds a bit of momentum . Some of the minor characters are amusing and Moira Tierney is great as Kate’s mom. Unfortunately however, the chemistry between little girl Kate and smug Tyler, the self proclaimed tornado wrangler, just doesn’t ring true. So the cute love story that is supposed to distract us doesn’t quite even out all the mud, rain, destruction of property or Kate’s unbelievable acts of heroism. BUT…in spite of its many flaws and overall campiness, this movie is entertaining and thankfully not too long.
