Stephen Clapham

This is one of the worst books I’ve ever read, the writer simply isn’t up to it. She goes to great lengths to describe minor things in the greatest details that maybe just to pad it out a bit. However I’ve made a mental note of the author and will never never read another of her efforts ever again.

I accept the theme of this book is gothic and is described as a slow burner. It does create an atmosphere and leads you literally down the garden path to expect a real twist in the tale. Sadly it does not deliver so the whole tale is very tedious, and as for being a slow burner only the slow is correct and God is it slow. I won’t be reading anymore Sarah Perry but it’s only my opinion some readers may find it really good but definitely not my cup of tea.
