I love the book Little Women and have seen all film versions I think.
Casting killed this version. A pity. Jo looked older then Meg by several years. Teddy looked younger then most of them. And as many have brought out already, Amy was such a disaster that the casting director should have been fired and replaced. I know the story well enough that I could keep up with the jumping (but I pity a newbi) and the telling of the story was ok.
Amy is suppose to be the elegant completely female character that Jo was not. As soon as the casting director heard her voice he or she should have said next. So unnaturally low. I thought they must have electronically made it so low but why? So odd. You could not pay attention to what was said as your wondering only how did they make the voice so low on a female. I can see why they changed actors in Wyonna Ryder version when Amy grew up. In that version Amy was the very elegant model women that Amy had striven for since childhood. Nose and all.
I did not mind the end idea. Leaving it open on Jo getting married was a fun twist.
My last complaint but a big one is music. The Wyonna Ryder version had stand alone quality music. I have the soundtrack and listen to it when driving. Just good music. You do not need the movie. I don’t even expect the new one to reach that quality, but to simply have no soundtrack is just lazy.
I’m afraid this new version will not make my library. The BBC version was awesome though. Have you seen it?
