After having enjoyed AC: Origins, I bought this game and was disappointed, to put it mildly.
The story is an after-thought. Your character accepts assassination contracts without knowing anything about the target or the person who ordered the kill, only to help said person's army once they get there, despite target being character's father who tried to kill them as a child. You would think they would get their revenge and get on with it, but you'd be wrong, because this is how a normal killer would do things. And if we did it that way, we couldn't have ... tons of stupid side quests first!
The water combat system has been tinkered with since AC: Origins and I found it clumsy to beat even the very first ships of my own level. Luckily, I was able to high-tail it out of the area and wait for my health bar to refill, then come back and beat them. So basically, you don't actually need to be good at ship combat to progress. If you're dying, just run to safety, and your ship will magically heal itself, and then attack again.
I gave this game more of a chance to get good than it deserved. I waited until the main character got off their home island, which felt like the 'training' part of the game, and which dragged on, easily more than 2 hours.
After about 10 hours, things had not gotten better, so I requested a refund. UbiSoft DENIED the refund because I had played more than 2 hours.
Basically, they punished me for giving the game a chance to get better. You have been warned - if you think you do not like a UbiSoft game you just purchased, be sure to give up on it before you've hit the 2 hour mark!
