I know this movie had great actors in it and amazing cinematography but honestly most the characters 'sounded' the same, like the literal same deadpan character. True, the characters had different stories and were played by different actors, but i feel like i deep dove directly into the writer's mind and he was all the characters. There is few exceptions like the cowboy, the brat teenager's father, and the 3 little girls. Everyone else was forced to act like a deadpan Wes Anderson. All the artistry and talent is wasted on being deadpan and you can barely comprehend the story. Might as well speak old english too. It is amazingly made, and very intriguing in a disturbing does-it-get-better way and the writing is beautiful in a literary sense. But there is endless monotonous droning deadpan that goes on and on, the accumulation of ad-like closeups reducing great actors to headshots and repeated cutting to different but still deadpan realities. I honestly started to go insane from the deadpan.
Just as i felt like my brain was gonna explode with the monotony and wanted to throw the remote in frustration, the mob chant was a huge relief, an acknowledgement of how much this movie sucks, so the writer must have planned for us to be bored to sleep with deadpan droning. Do i love it or hate it, i hate it but its artistic insanity. I just prefer plots and sanity and acting other than constant deadpan style and with realistic emotions.
If you cannot possibly get enough deadpan by every actor in every scene. This movie is for you.
