Jaded is the best and most accurate representation of the unraveling effects of sexual assault I’ve ever read.
The sense of suffocating inside your self and feeling trapped in this moment and trying to claw your way out of it. The unjustified shame and guilt, the unnerving rage and resentment for the world around you.
Jade’s inability to feel clean.
Her suffocating fear and anxiety.
Her disbelief and denial in part one vs her utter sense of betrayal and despair in part two and three.
Her using sex as a way to gain back her freedom and control only to be left feeling shamed and dirty.
The way the world opens up to her and she becomes so aware of the things she let slide, grappling with her sense of identity and purpose outside of her relationship with Kit, her reaction to his sheer narcissism and disrespect for her trauma. The reality of what speaking up means, the reality of what staying silent means.
This book was incredible. It’s a raw and honest story about the reality of being a woman of colour in a white male dominated society and the culture of the “boys club” and dismissive nature of violence and discrimination against women inside corporate offices and the world in general.
