The story is absolutely superb but I couldn’t disagree more about the author’s narration. He absolutely massacred the Glaswegian accents. His attempts at the various Glaswegian characters’ accents are so awful that I’ve had to stop listening to the audio book.
I am Glaswegian so I know exactly how these characters should sound. It is so bad and offensive that I can’t easily understand the dialogue and simply cannot listen to it anymore. His Geordie accent is also utterly dreadful and inaccurate. I don’t know Indian accents well enough to know if those attempts are equally appalling. Even in his normal accent he does not pronounce several words correctly, eg he pronounced quay as ‘kway’ when it is pronounced ‘key’. How on earth does a doctor and author not know how to pronounce common words?
