Oppenheimer is a decade-spanning, highly detailed epic character study that will leave you thinking and horrified about the convergence of science, politics, and man-made destruction long after the credits roll. For such a dialogue-heavy movie which often delves into detailed discussions about physics or security clearance, the movie flew by during its 3-hour runtime. Christopher Nolan famously does not have a smartphone, and you can see that idea of immersion translated onto the screen. This movie will have you completely immersed in its story and will reward you greatly for your attention. All of the performances are excellent, especially Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., and Emily Blunt. As with all Nolan movies, the cinematography, production design, and sound are all first-rate. If I had one complaint, it would be that the dialogue is sometimes a bit hard to hear because the music is so loud (a common problem in Nolan movies). Sound mixing issues aside, this is a top 3 Nolan movie and my favorite movie so far of 2023. And yes, you feel every bit of that moment in the movie.
