The dialogue is really bad. The story is really convoluted. They pound you in the head with this half-baked marvel meets magic meets medieval times for two hours straight, but it's so poorly written and executed that you can't help but to start skipping every scene and every interaction; which makes their "friendship" mechanic unusable because the npc interactions are insufferable.
The combat itself is pretty unique and fun, but it's incredibly easy and short. So, you end up spending most of the game watching bad cut scenes or running around your home-base talking to npcs who are weaving some nonsensical poorly thought out story you couldn't care less about.
