I'm usually not one to give a 5-star rating to even the most acclaimed, widely popular shows. I also seldom enjoy Netflix original series--most of the plot is way too predictable for me. But this one is an absolute gem.
Ginny & Georgia is a sensational modern-day feel-good series that, dare I say, is comparable to both its classic counterparts (i.e. Gilmore Girls, Friends, How I Met Your Mother, etc) and its more recent counterparts (Community, The Bold Type, New Girl, etc.) for it is way less cliché and definitely not sexually/racially insensitive like the other classics.
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's an all-time masterpiece or that it is free of any cringe, but the lovable and dynamic character development of each protagonist, the unpredictability of the plot arch, the cinematography, the casts' stellar performance, and the message that each episode aims to portray all make this such a pleasant--even therapeutic--show to watch, even for viewers like myself who have 100+ shows left untouched after 1-2 episodes.
One thing though: it does make me think that the pretty, "cool" single mom & precocious daughter combo (coincidentally also abbreviated as GG, Gilmore Girls) is too obvious of an hommage, makes it wonder if it's a knock-off. But I do love Georgia's character (and sorry Rory, even Ginny's) who is resourceful, tactful, and fearless, way more than the infantile and stubborn Lorelai's.
