I used to think fairly highly of 'Spotlight News', but sadly, on the whole, I think the standard of reporting has fallen significantly over the last few years.
What should be a flagship program for the WHOLE SW Region seems to be run by an editorial team who can't, or won't, look anywhere else but within 10 miles of the Tamar bridge for news stories etc.
The bias shown during the aftermath of the Keyham shooting & subsequent inquiry was another clear example of poor control. If the editors really wanted a story why didn't they go after the members of D&C constabulary that issued the shot gun licence and weapon back to somebody who clearly shouldn't have had it?
Dragging it all back up, and alluding to it during the recent removal of a WW2 bomb was totally unnecessary at best, and grossly crass at worst.
Not least of which, the whole bomb disposal story was dragged out far too long, and flogged to death - which now appears to be a very BBC trait unfortunately!
Can Spotlight also stop giving voice to moaning Cornish Business owners please! Either they are moaning about the lack of visitors, too many visitors, the lack of staff willing to work part time hours for peanuts, the 'costs' of running a business etc. etc. Oddly enough, we never hear the same sort of complaints from N. E. S. or W Devon, Somerset, Dorset etc. Probably because no reporters are sent there.....
BTW, if it really is a slow news day in the office - defaulting to sending a camera man and reporter out some 'gardens' somewhere does not a story make! Also if you are going to have a linked page to the BBC main website - at least up date it on a regular basis! Talk about old news..........
Losing faith and willingness to pay the 'licence tax'!
